Sara Kinney

Sara Kinney is an American cinematographer known for an emotionally resonant, poetic naturalism. She’s shot for National Geographic, HBO, Vice News, Showtime, Channel4, and Disney+ on issues such as political conflict, women’s rights, wildlife conservation, gender identity, and the intersection of art and technology. She’s known for stories about marginalized cultures and visionary outsiders. Her work has screened at Sundance, TriBeCa, SXSW, The Cannes Short Film Corner, and festivals all over the world.

Sara holds a BFA from Pratt Institute, and an MFA in cinematography from the American Film Institute, where she was nominated for an ASC student heritage award. 

A member of the Society of Camera Operators, Sara shoots aerials (FAA-107 certified), enjoys shooting underwater (PADI certified diver), is a Phantom technician, and makes her own hot sauce.
